DLP Cinema® Chosen as a Preferred Technology for Landmark Theatres
Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) at 2006
International CES today announced that Landmark Theatres has chosen DLP Cinema®
technology as a preferred digital projection technology for the independent
theater chain. In addition, the companies have finalized an agreement to
collaborate on additional marketing activities surrounding the deployment of
digital cinema to drive awareness and demand amongst moviegoers.
DLP Cinema projectors from Barco will be installed at select Landmark Theatres
throughout the U.S. In addition, DLP Cinema and DLP® technology from Texas
Instruments will be promoted at Landmark Theatres featuring the technology to
let moviegoers know they are about to get a unique and powerful theatre
experience through an on-screen trailer and inclusion in Landmark marketing
materials.
The relationship will kick off with the "day and date" simultaneous theatre,
cable television and DVD release of Steven Soderbergh's Bubble on January 27,
2006, a first for the movie industry. Bubble will be screened digitally on DLP
Cinema projectors in Landmark theatres where available.
Landmark Theatres, which is owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, has 215 screens
in 23 of the top markets in the U.S., and welcomes more than 12+ million
moviegoers each year. This relationship with Texas Instruments maintains
Landmark's position as a front-runner in applying cutting-edge cinema
experiences.
"We are excited about our new relationship with Texas Instruments for the
deployment of DLP Cinema as a preferred digital cinema technology in our
Landmark theatres," said Todd Wagner, co-owner of Landmark Theatres. "TI has
proven its reliability and ability to deliver amazing pictures over the last 6
years, so we are confident in the decision to choose DLP Cinema technology."
DLP Cinema projectors have been deployed in theatres for more than 6 years,
bringing the visual benefits of digital to moviegoers in 30 countries. There are
now more than 600 DLP Cinema theatres worldwide, with thousands more announced
to deploy in the next few years.
