At CineAsia, the major convention and trade show that focuses exclusively on
the Asia/Pacific cinema industry, Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) will once
again demonstrate the leadership its DLP Cinema™ technology has achieved in
enabling digital cinema by providing the first demonstration for the Asian movie
industry of its CineCanvas™ subtitling capability. CineCanvas™ subtitling
technology, which will be made available to customers in the near future, will
eliminate the need for distributors to make a special subtitle print, thereby
lowering the cost of distribution for digital releases and giving exhibitors
access to a broader range of content and features than has previously been
possible. CineAsia will take place Dec. 3-5 2002 in Bangkok, Thailand
The CineCanvas™ image management features enable DLP Cinema™ technology to be
used across a broader range of movie theater locations and to support a wider
range of source materials. Key elements include the ability to size the image to
the screen and to insert text and graphics overlays, enabling the insertion of
subtitles and captions in multiple languages and fonts.
"The Asian market is a very significant market for digital cinema," said Doug
Darrow, Business Manager for DLP Cinema™ Products at TI's DLP™ Products
division. "Not only is movie-going embedded in the Asian culture, but also the
movie industry here has shown an extraordinary willingness to adopt new
technology. We have seen a rapid expansion in the number of screens equipped
with DLP Cinema projection technology, and we expect that expansion to continue.
We're very excited to be at CineAsia to demonstrate to the local movie community
how DLP Cinema technology is continuing to develop."
At CineAsia attendees can experience DLP Cinema™ technology through Christie,
BARCO and NEC ViewTechnology, the three companies developing digital cinema
projectors featuring DLP Cinema™ technology, or at the following Texas
