The European
Digital Cinema Forum (EDCF), the impartial European organisation that brings
together the major players in the cinema technology world, is to hold its first
Annual Convention later this year in Munich, Germany. The Convention
will take place on 1 December 2016, at the internationally renowned HFF Film
School which is 50 years old this year, and will include a tour of the historic
ARRI studios at BavariaFilm in Munich on the eve of the conference.
Unlike other events of this type, we are building an open day around the
membership survey of interests undertaken earlier this year, and the topics to
be covered will include all or some of the following: High Dynamic Range, High Frame
Rate, Wider Color Gamut, Ang Lee’s ‘The Whole Shebang’, RGB laser projection,
laser phosphor, 4K and UHD, 3D, immersive audio systems, immersive audio
standards, SMPTE DCP, electronic delivery of films, digital archiving, 4D,
immersive motion seating, Haptic cinematography, Virtual reality: creation,
Virtual reality: screening, Cinema analytics and more.

annual convention for members and non-members alike. The EDCF is a forum for
discussion, information sharing, education and opinion and we have planned a
full day around the most exciting topics that are engaging the industry at the
moment. The idea of the EDCF is to share, and we aim to provide an impartial
platform for all industry professionals to swap ideas, opinions, and information
but also to learn about all aspects of the cinema technology sector.’
The EDCF is
partnering with Germany’s local trade association for cinema and TV technology,
the FKTG, whose President Siegfried
Fößel
is also an EDCF Board Member. The Convention
is free for EDCF members and with a fee of EUR50 for non-members to attend.

EDCF
The EDCF is
a not-for-profit voluntary organisation that aims to act as a
"Forum" to discuss key issues surrounding
Digital Cinema in Europe.
The purpose of EDCF is to provide a basis of common
understanding across all European territories of the business and technical
matters of digital cinema. We were established in 2000, before the widespread rollout
of digital cinema technology, in order to accompany the rollout and minimise
any impact on European cinema, as well as putting forward a European point of
view of cinema technology within global standards organisations. Our work has
now widened to include all technologies in cinema. Membership is open to any organisation or
individual with a genuine interest in furthering the knowledge and understanding
of digital cinema.
