Dolby Celebrates 40 Years of Enhancing Entertainment at ShoWest 2005
Innovative digital cinema, audio, and subtitling products on display to optimize cinemas around the world
Dolby Laboratories announced today that it will be
celebrating its 40-year anniversary at the ShoWest 2005 convention, held in Las
Vegas, March 15–17 at Bally’s Paris Resort, booth #1605. As the company honors
40 years of technological advancements, Dolby will showcase its latest digital
cinema, audio, and subtitling products and technologies that are designed to
serve studios and exhibitors alike and lead them into the digital future.
While the digital cinema market continues to evolve, Dolby is leveraging its
well respected entertainment, research, and engineering heritage to provide
compelling solutions for the digital cinema market. The Dolby® Digital Cinema
system, which has already delivered more than 1,000 successful screenings in
beta sites worldwide, is a high-quality, secure and reliable solution that is
designed and built specifically for today’s cinemas. The Dolby Digital Cinema
system will be displayed in the booth and showcased at the ShoWest opening day
lunch. During this event, Dolby will debut its digital cinema trailer,
Countdown, and present an overview of Dolby’s 40 years of entertainment
innovations.
“As we reflect on the past and look toward the future, Dolby remains committed
to bringing technologies to market that significantly improve the cinema-going
experience,” said Tim Partridge, Senior Vice President and General Manager,
Professional Division. “To ensure that exhibitors make a smooth transition to
digital, we’ve developed a standards-based system that provides reliability,
ease-of-use, and technological innovation.”
On display will be the Dolby CP650 Cinema Processor, the engine of Dolby’s
modern cinema sound system. Found in thousands of flagship cinemas worldwide,
the CP650 processes all Dolby sound formats. Other configurations are available
to fit the needs of a cinema, while providing an easy upgrade path.
In addition, Dolby will also be demonstrating its ScreenTalkTM product line
during ShoWest 2005. ScreenTalk is a cinema subtitling system that provides
full-color digital subtitles via a video projector or an alternative subtitling
device. It also provides audio commentary for the visually impaired using the
cinema’s wireless headphone system. Dolby ScreenTalk digitally superimposes
subtitles over any standard 35 mm film with a Dolby Digital soundtrack.
