Sony Digital Cinema Projector Cumulative Shipments Exceed 10,000 Units —Sep 30, 2011
In 2007, Sony first introduced a digital cinema system capable of projecting ultra-high resolution “4K” images with 8.8 million pixels (4096 X 2160)---a four-fold increase over conventional HD. DIGITAL CINEMA GETS TOP BILLING WITH SONY, LANDMARK THEATRES ALLIANCE —Mar 15, 2005
Signaling the arrival of digital cinema to the American mainstream, Landmark Theatres, a 2929 Entertainment company, is raising the curtain on a deal that will outfit the movie chain’s properties with Sony’s new digital SXRD projectors. Landmark will begin its digital cinema rollout this summer with six SXRD projectors, and plans to fully enable all of its 59 theaters (covering 22 markets) for digital projection. Spider-Man® 2 to Debut on Sony Electronics' Revolutionary 4K SXRD™ Digital Projection System at Special Screening —Dec 22, 2004
On January 13, Sony Pictures will present the first-ever showing of a major studio motion picture using Sony's revolutionary new "4K" digital projection system at a screening of Columbia Pictures' blockbuster Spider-Man® 2. The uncompressed "4K" digital cinema content for the projection system will be powered by advanced visualization and shared storage systems from Silicon Graphics (NYSE: SGI - News). The special invitation event will be held at the Entertainment Technology Center's Digital Cinema Lab at the Hollywood Pacific Theatre (6433 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, Calif. 90028).
