R/C Theatres is a Baltimore-based, fourth generation family-owned and operated business that was started by Maurice and Leigh Cohen in 1932 with the purchase of their first theatre, the Leader Theatre on South Broadway in Baltimore. Since then, the company has sold, bought and built dozens of theatres in the Mid-Atlantic region. R/C currently has 14 locations, including Richland Crossings 12, for a total of 131 screens. The other theatres include: 2 in NC (Kill Devil Hills 10 and Albemarle Movies 8 in Elizabeth City), 3 in MD (Westminster 9, Hollywood 4 in Arbutus, Lexington 12 in California), 2 in VA (State 3 in Lexington, Covington 3), and 6 in PA (Gateway 8 in Gettysburg, Hanover 16, Carlisle Commons 8, Reading 11 & IMAX, Wilkes Barre 14, and Queensgate 13 & IMAX in York). The company’s corporate headquarters is in Reisterstown, MD where they have been since 1987. Prior to that, their office was located on West Mount Royal Avenue in Baltimore. Scott R. Cohen, the grandson of Maurice and Leigh, proceeded his father, Irwin R. Cohen, as President and CEO of R/C Theatres.
