NEC Announces Highest Install of Digital Cinema Projectors in Domestic Post-Production D-Cinema Houses
Starus Digital Cinema Projectors Now an Integral Part of Key Post-Production Houses Across the Country
NEC Solutions (America), Inc. today
announced that it has achieved the highest install level of its Starus™ iS8
digital cinema projectors with DLP Cinema® technology from Texas Instruments in
digitally equipped post-production houses in North America. CineWorks, Complete
Post, Digi-Flicks®, Digital Post, Disney® Projection Department, Warner Bros.,
Dolby Laboratories, FotoKem, LaserPacific Media Corporation, Post Logic, Sony
Imageworks Inc., and Technicolor Creative Services USA Inc. have all selected
the superior image quality of NEC’s Starus digital cinema projectors for their
post-production needs.
The news comes on the heels of NEC’s unveiling of the new Starus NC2500S Digital
Cinema Projector, the latest member of the Starus family. The Starus NC2500S is
the only DLP Cinema projector available today with lens memory and lamp power
memory and the only DLP Cinema projector on the market with a built-in
multi-media switcher that boasts a Realta™ processor with HQV™ technology
powered by Teranex.
Commenting on the company’s success to date, Kurt Schwenk, general manager for
the Digital Cinema Division of NEC Solutions America, said that “it has been
extremely exciting to note NEC’s progress since our group was formed three years
ago. By leveraging our company’s legacy of building high quality and
state-of-the-art equipment with the digital cinema expertise of our team, we
have quickly become one of the leaders in the cinema industry.”
“There are approximately 25 unique post-production houses boasting D-Cinema
quality attributes in the U.S. today,” said Bill Mead, a consultant and
publisher of DCinema Today. “NEC’s rapid ascent in becoming one of the premier
providers of digital cinema solutions is matched only by the increase in demand
for digital projection in post-houses across the country and around the world.”
All of NEC’s Starus projectors comply with DCI’s Digital Cinema System
Specification for contrast ratio, colorimetry and uniformity. NEC is one of only
three manufacturers with the rights to incorporate this technology into their
projectors. NEC Solutions America, American Hi-Definition and authorized dealers
are the exclusive providers of NEC projectors using Texas Instruments DLP Cinema
technology in the Americas. NEC is leading the industry in display development
and fulfillment.
“Given the evolution of cinema projection and fulfillment, we were faced with
the challenge of matching the digital projection requirements of the audience
and studio alike,” said Terry Brown, vice president of Engineering and CTO,
Technicolor Creative Services. “We immediately looked to NEC, as its projection
solutions are already recognized as some of the best in the industry. Partner
that legacy with the knowledge of the individuals behind NEC’s Digital Cinema
efforts and the decision was simple.”
NEC’s Starus Digital Cinema Solution combines the immaculate imagery of digital
cinema projection with NEC’s award-winning fault tolerant server technology.
NEC’s Starus system offers the most comprehensive digital cinema solution on the
market today. Utilizing high-speed fibre channel connectivity, exhibitors can
now alleviate the “Thursday night challenge” by enabling the transfer of feature
film files from screen to screen in minutes controlled from a single or multiple
locations. NEC designed the Starus Digital Cinema system to deliver simple
multiplex, post-production and presentation management in addition to seamless
integration at a competitive price.
