1939 Eidophor Projector Concept (Swiss)
In 1939, in Zurich Switzerland, Dr. Fritz Fisher, a professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology conceive of a technique for modulating light using the diffraction patterns that develop when an oil surface is scanned in a vacuum with an electron beam. He believed the technology would overcome the limitations of CRT devices and produce enough brightness to easily light up full-sized movie screens.
