GDC Technology announces successful cross-continent transmission of digital cinema content packaged in MXF
GDC Technology, the leading provider of digital cinema solutions is pleased to announce the successful cross-continent transmission of digital cinema content packaged in the
industrial standard MXF which marks an important milestone for the development
of digital cinema.
Worldwide digital cinema theatres equipped with GDC Technology’s DSR™ SA1000
Digital Film Servers are the first to be upgraded to MXF which is adopted by the
Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI). GDC Technology once again leads the industry
by remotely upgrading most of the servers deployed in the field to MXF while
maintaining backward compatibility with GDC Technology’s proprietary DSR™ format. GDC Technology’s products are designed to enable the transition of the
deployed servers and digital mastering systems to the digital cinema standard
when it becomes available.
The ‘Cross-Continent Digital Content Transmission’ or CCTx project is
spearheaded by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Singapore
Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) Digital Media Chapter (DMC). CCTx project
aims to develop a viable worldwide digital distribution model that can be
commercialized in addition to establishing a secure and seamless digital
delivery of content to digital cinema theatres in Asia.
"The SiTF Digital Media Chapter is very happy to lead and manage the CCTx
project in collaboration with the Singapore government and key industrial
players. GDC is a key partner whose contribution is invaluable. We are proud
that a Singapore home-grown company has made such a significant impact on the
digital cinema industry" commented Mock Pak Lum, Chairman of Singapore Infocomm
Technology Federation (SiTF) Digital Media Chapter (DMC).
The digital content such as DCI StEM (Standard Evaluation Material) and
Hollywood feature films were prepared in the much anticipated MXF format and was
securely delivered from US to digital cinema theatres with GDC Technology’s
DSR™ SA1000 Digital Film Servers upgraded with MXF capability located in
Singapore and Thailand, via satellite. Being successfully managed out of
Singapore, this showcase project will pave the way for Singapore to provide
distribution, processing and management services of digital content for the Asia
market. This complete working model allows studios to securely deliver digital
content to Singapore, localize it and re-transmit the localized content for
regional distribution.
"GDC Technology's efforts in providing digital media players with processing
services help further Singapore's aspiration to be a Digital Exchange that not
only distributes but processes and manages digital content through Singapore to
Asia" said Khoong Hock Yun, Assistant Chief Executive, Industry, Infocomm
Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
