The International Cinema Technology Association held its’ annual Summer Business Retreat in our nation’s capital last week at the historic Willard InterContinental hotel. Attendees included ICTA members from all over the US as well as international constituents from Russia, Germany and England.
This three day event included hearing from such notable industry veterans as MPAA President Senator Christopher Dodd and CTO John McCoskey, NATO President John Fithian as well as Neil Campbell from Landmark Theatres in Canada. Topics of discussion included speakers on premium seating, laser projection an update on digital penetration and what’s new from the cinema manufacturer community. Attendees also visited the American Film Institute Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Springs Maryland and were treated to a tour of the facility and presentation of notable theater installations in the DC area by Steven Guttag from Cardinal Sound and Motion Picture Systems. The ICTA also held both a Board and Membership meeting during the week where future decisions regarding additional ICTA worldwide events were discussed.
“I’m delighted with the turn out to our annual summer business retreat,” noted ICTA President Joe DeMeo. “We specifically targeted our nation’s capital this year in order to attract more attendees from our European base which makes up over 30% of our membership and I’m pleased to say that we accomplished this goal.” “Having the retreat in DC this year allowed us to leverage our relationships with both NATO and the MPAA” said ICTA Executive Director Robert Sunshine. “To have speakers from both of these organizations speak to our attendees was a wonderful opportunity for them.” ICTA Dealer of the Year and Manufacture of the year.
Awards were presented to Tri State Theatre Supply, Ultra Stereo Labs and the prestigious Ioan Allen award to Beth Figge from Doremi. Next year’s ICTA Summer Business Retreat will be held in Austin Texas during the week of July 12th
The International Cinema Technology Association consists of members from the worldwide cinema community in all markets including exhibitors, dealers, manufacturers and service providers. At 200 members strong, the ICTA holds various events during the year most notably the January Seminar Series held at the Universal Hilton in Universal City in Los Angeles.
