On the occasion of CineAsia 2011, Digital Cinema pioneer Barco announced that its Digital Cinema projector install base currently represents 40% of the total DLP Cinema®-based projector fleet worldwide. Barco’s communication follows earlier press releases issued by Texas Instruments DLP Cinema® and one of its licensees. In line with a company announcement released last August, Barco’s total projector deliveries currently amount to more than 20,000 units – the result of a spectacular growth over the last three years.
In a reaction to the ongoing number game, JP Tanghe, Senior Vice President at Barco, stated: "As a listed company, Barco has always cherished offering its shareholders and other stakeholders the highest level of transparency, accuracy and trustworthiness when sharing information and it intends to continue along this path in the future."
"We are proud of our large contribution to the worldwide success of Texas Instruments' award-winning DLP Cinema® technology. As this technology is now passing the 50,000 units milestone, we are happy to announce that Barco's share in this success story represents no less than 40%, or well over 20,000 units,” commented Wim Buyens, Senior Vice-President of Barco's Entertainment division. “Moreover, various big incoming orders from large international cinema chains as well as regional exhibitors - including Cinepolis in Latin America, SF Bio in Scandinavia and many others - prove that Barco remains a preferred cinema technology partner for the future."
As the Digital Cinema market is rapidly evolving, Barco is committed to remain a leading technology provider, supporting the digitization of multiplexes and art house cinemas on every continent. With its wide product portfolio, featuring the brightest projector on the planet, and continuous product innovations, including a fully immersive 3D audio system, Barco is constantly raising the bar of the moviegoing experience, while at the same time keeping total cost of ownership for exhibitors at an absolute minimum.
Barco also continues to invest strongly in emerging markets. Earlier this year, the company
announced a dedicated partnership with China Film Group to further develop the Digital Cinema market in Greater China, and Barco also strengthened its teams in Mexico and Brazil. "Our market share of over 60% in the Chinese market proves that our global strategy of strong industrial partnerships and focus on customer satisfaction is the way to go. On this occasion, we want to thank all our customers for their continued support and their belief that Barco is truly bringing them the cinema of the future," Wim Buyens concluded.
