The Vista Project and SMPTE Join Forces with TimePlay to Offer a Proven Interactive Platform for Student Filmmaker Competition

Partnership Adds Cutting-Edge Smartphone Technology to Facilitate Audience Interaction with Content on the Big Screen
Deadline for Submissions Extended to November 15

TimePlay Inc., a leader in the interactive second screen industry, today announced that it will provide its proprietary mobile platform to support The Vista Project by assisting student applicants to use its technology for movie theater storytelling.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers(R) (SMPTE), a leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the media, entertainment, and technology industries, is a key partner in The Vista Project.

TimePlay’s proprietary technology transforms a smartphone into an input controller, which connects to the big screen and creates 2-way interactivity. Moviegoers can participate in a completely new entertainment experience, which connects family, friends and strangers in the theatre. TimePlay enables user empowerment, engagement and social connection and has proven to offer meaningful and immersive experiences.

TimePlay’s globally patented IP, allows moviegoers to control how stories unfold on the cinema screen in real-time.

Entering The Vista Project
The Vista Project competition is open exclusively to students enrolled in a two- or four-year accredited university-level undergraduate or graduate program. Five finalists will be chosen and awarded $5,000 each to create a 10-minute short that could serve as a template for a long-form interactive cinema experience. The top two shorts will be screened at CinemaCon in March 2017, and the winner will get an additional $5,000 First Prize, with the runner-up receiving $2,500. Both shorts will be showcased in select theaters following the event.

Student filmmakers may enter The Vista Project by first submitting a maximum 400-word executive summary of their planned project and a detailed budget describing how they would disburse the $5,000 in award funds by the new November 15, 2016 entry deadline (extended from prior September date due to TimePlay’s recent involvement).

Complete instructions are available at http://www.thevistaproject.com. Students may enter the competition directly via the link at https://filmfreeway.com/festival/TheVistaProject

Each student’s film project should focus on big-screen storytelling with a suggested second-screen interaction, such as with a mobile or tablet device. Participants are encouraged to target their own demographic of digital contemporaries with an immersive approach to film that maintains elements of strong story structure, protagonists, and dialogue.

"We’re thrilled to be partnering with TimePlay for The Vista Project. Their platform will help amplify short films and inspire filmmakers to be thinking of cinematic storytelling in innovative and forward thinking ways," said Bud Mayo, founding chair of The Vista Project.

"Interactive cinema is an exciting concept for moviegoers,” said Jon Hussman, CEO of TimePlay, “We’re thrilled that, through the Vista Project, up and coming filmmakers will be utilizing our platform.”

The five finalists for The Vista Project competition will be chosen in conjunction with the SMPTE Centennial Gala Celebration in Hollywood, California, in October.
