NEC Solutions (America), Inc. today
announced at Cinema Expo 2006 the availability of its STARUS™ JPEG2000 screen server to enhance its DCI-compliant digital cinema movie
playback solution. NEC's STARUS Digital Cinema solution, powered by the
STARUS JPEG2000 screen server, makes error reporting, troubleshooting,
and system management simple and fast for technicians without
compromising content security.
NEC Solutions America and NEC Europe are showcasing the STARUS JPEG2000
screen server at the Cinema Expo 2006 Conference in Amsterdam, June
26-29, 2006 within Hall 11, Suite E.

the importance of the JPEG2000 format and NEC was first in the industry
with a multiplex solution, the STARUS JPEG2000 multiplex-wide hub
server, which we announced at ShoWest earlier this year," said Kurt

America. "NEC is excited to offer the new STARUS JPEG2000 screen server
which now allows cinemas of any size, from single screen to full
multiplex deployments the same convenience and ease of movie
distribution."
The STARUS JPEG2000 screen server complements the recently announced
family of STARUS Digital Cinema projectors with DLP Cinema(r) technology
from Texas Instruments(r). The complete solution expands NEC's position
in the entertainment and post-production markets by serving as a single
source for digital cinema systems. The STARUS JPEG2000 is compatible
with the complete family of STARUS Digital Cinema projectors including
the STARUS NC2500S for large screen multiplexes, the STARUS NC1500C for
medium-sized movie screens, and the STARUS NC800C for small theatres,
screening rooms, and post-production facilities, as well as all other
digital cinema projectors.
STARUS Digital Cinema Servers for the Multiplex
The STARUS Digital Cinema server system as well as the multiplex-wide
hub and screen system are both fully DCI-compliant, including the
security requirements outlined in the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative)
specification.
Combining state-of-the-art technology with ease of use, NEC's STARUS
Digital Cinema server software incorporates the cinema industry's own
language in the user interface, minimizing training requirements. The
STARUS JPEG2000 screen and STARUS JPEG2000 multiplex-wide hub servers
are designed for easy installation and manageability. The STARUS
JPEG2000 multiplex-wide hub servers are designed to provide high
availability, acting as backup, to continue running scheduled movies
even in the case of a screen system outage. As the first "virtual"

screen within the multiplex.
