Barco announced today from CinemaCon, the annual convention for theater owners in Las Vegas, that Universal Pictures’ JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH and new live-action HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON will release in premium HDR by Barco.
Barco, the global leader in laser cinema, debuted the groundbreaking HDR by Barco experience last fall as part of a special exhibition in select markets in the U.S. and U.K. It is now rolling out the format, beginning with locations in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON Live-Action - June 13, 2025
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH - July 2, 2025A new era is born. Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees a covert extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
This announcement continues the ongoing collaboration between HDR by Barco and Universal Pictures beginning with the release of DreamWorks Animation’s THE WILD ROBOT in October 2024, followed by DreamWorks’ DOG MAN this January.
Based on the company’s patented Lightsteering technology, Barco’s approach to HDR works by strategically redistributing light on screen to produce highlights that are more than 6x brighter than traditional projection, while retaining rich details in the darks for greater depth, clarity and range. HDR by Barco delivers expansive creative possibilities for filmmakers, producing a wide color gamut with high-contrast images that captivate audiences.
