Picturehouse Cinemas Undertake Live Production and Satellite Broadcast of Director Q&A Across the UK
On Wednesday 4th April Picturehouse, the UK’s leading independent cinema operator, is set to film and broadcast from The Ritzy, London, live-via-satellite, a question and answer session with esteemed British director Danny Boyle, across eight of its sites nationwide, following preview screenings of his new movie, SUNSHINE.
This special event marks the further, innovative use of Picturehouse’s digital projection satellite network capability, which will for the first time include the exhibitor actually producing a live event exclusively for its digital screens.
Director of Programming, Clare Binns, said: “Expanding our capabilities to include offering fully live productions, as well as live satellite reception and state of the art digital projection, is a very exciting area to move into. We’re hoping more and more distributors will take advantage of our satellite network to do similar live Q&A links involving directors and film talent.”
Head of Digital Development, Marc John commented: “This takes ‘digital cinema’ into whole new realms of possibilities for our content providers and audiences alike. It’s thrilling to have Danny Boyle’s participation in what is sure to be a very intimate, special occasion.”
Audience members around the country are being given the opportunity to put their questions to Boyle, one of Britain’s leading directors (TRAINSPOTTING, 28-DAYS LATER), for a moderator at the host venue, the Ritzy cinema in Brixton, to relay to the director.
