dcinex™ and German Distributors Agree on VPF Solution
dcinex™, born from the rebranding of XDC, FTT and Bewegte Bilder and a group of about 30 German distributors, represented by Constantin Film, Studiocanal, Central Film and Tobis, have agreed on signing a Deal Memo about the terms and conditions of a Virtual Print Fee agreement.
This means that all members of the group may book their films at cinemas deployed by dcinex™. The group, representing more than 20% of the German market in terms of box office, joined forces last year to pool resources in the negotiation process. The resulting conditions can be offered to all distributors in Germany regardless whether or not they had joined the group.
Serge Plasch, Chief Executive Officer of dcinex™ said: “I’m very pleased that we have now reached an agreement with these major and smaller players on the German market providing an even wider range of content to VPF-financed cinemas.”
Oliver Koppert, Managing Director of Constantin Film Verleih states: “It’s been a long process and we appreciate that dcinex™made its best efforts to accommodate our needs.”
Kalle Friz, Executive VP Theatrical Distribution Germany of Studiocanal points out: “We now have a VPF agreement that takes into account the needs of the independent film distribution model and which can be an example for other negotiations.”
Peter Sundarp, Managing Director of Central Film expresses: “We are all aware of the benefits of a fully digitized distribution and exhibition chain, but it was important to find a VPF solution with dcinex™ that works for all distributors in our group. I think we have achieved this.”
Theo Gringel, Managing Director of Tobis Film underlines: “I’m glad that we could successfully complete this VPF negotiation process through fruitful discussion. The found solution with dcinex™ has contributed in particular to maintain the diversity of programming in cinemas and sustainable theatrical distribution.”
Frauke Feuer, Distributor Relations Manager at dcinex™ adds: “I would like to thank the representatives of the group for keeping an open mind and seeking solutions throughout our negotiation process.”
