With the innovative Auro 11.1 audio platform and our support for the adoption of an open standard for immersive sound, digital cinema pioneer Barco has managed to bring “immersive cinema” to a whole new level. In the APAC region alone, more than fifty screens have been equipped with the three-layer sound technology.
In the next twelve months, five additional Asian based mixing studios are upgrading their equipment to the "Auro-3D® Studio System" and ten Asian feature films, including
No. 1,
Race Gurram,
Vishwaroopam 2, and
Kochadiyaan, will be released in Auro 11.1 by Barco. In addition, Barco partner MBS Studios in Hong Kong and H. Brother in China will be releasing a strong slate of regional titles, further increasing the solution’s impact on the Asian cinema industry.
Outside of the APAC region, Auro 11.1 is drawing the attention of leading cinema exhibitors and audio post-production studios alike, with nearly one hundred installations completed in theaters worldwide and over 50 films in our pipeline. “Auro 11.1 installations continue to increase at a substantial pace worldwide,” states Brian Claypool, senior director of strategic business development at Barco. “With recent announcements from top exhibitors such as Regal Entertainment Group and Cinemark USA, we have more than 250 confirmed installations in the pipeline.”
Resounding successSo far, more than twenty-five leading post-production studios have installed the Auro 3D Studio System, including Skywalker Sound, DreamWorks Animation, 20th Century, Fox, and other leading post production facilities in Hollywood. As a result, over thirty feature films mixed and released in Auro 11.1 are now available. Twenty more have been confirmed for release next 12-month, including I-FRANKENSTEIN and the three DreamWorks animation films Mr. Peabody and Sherman, How to Train your Dragon 2, and Home with additional titles to be announced in the coming weeks. In short, there will be ample opportunities for audiences around the world to discover what “immersive cinema” really means.
Three layers of sound Developed by Auro Technologies and powered by Barco, the Auro 11.1 sound format integrates three layers of sound: surround, height, and overhead–a huge step forward compared to the conventional 5.1 or two-layered “object-based” formats. Thanks to its 11.1 configuration, it allows sound mixers to move objects around in space and reproduce the immersive aspects of a film soundtrack in a way that is more compatible with their current workflow. The Auro 11.1 sound technology provides the best acoustic experience at the most commercially viable price point in the market.
Discover Auro 11.1 immersive sound from 10 through 12 December at CineAsia in Hong Kong, booth 301, Hall G at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Exhibitors and film producers will have the exclusive opportunity to visit MBS Studios and see the solution at work in a studio environment.
