Post Logic Studios Chooses A Digital Cinema Projector By Digital Projection International to Support Digital Intermediate Workflow
Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer
of high-performance projection systems, announced Post Logic Studios has chosen
the company's iS10 DLP Cinema™ projection system to support its new end-to-end
digital intermediate process - Post Logic Cinema Digital.
Post Logic Studios' digital intermediate services, recently used for digital
intermediate colour processing on such projects as "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over",
encompass telecine, colour correction, online assembly, digital intermediate
film-out and down conversion from an on-site 1500-square-foot digital theatre at
the facility's headquarters in Hollywood, CA. The Digital Projection
Cinema-branded iS10 projector has been installed in this space, which also
features a 24x10-foot screen and 5.1 stereo surround sound.
"We purchased the iS10 after a three-week demo in which we colour-corrected
elements for HD video and film outputs", said Merle Sharp, VP of Engineering at
Post Logic Studios. "The 4.4.4 capability allowed us to stay in full bandwith
colour space for colour correction monitoring. The auto turret makes 1.85 and
2.39 lens changeover very easy, removing the need for manual lens alignment and
handling. It is very easy to set look-up tables and match our film projector for
film outputs. And we've been impressed by the iS10's reliability and picture
quality."
The new Post Logic Cinema Digital theatre gives clients an optimal "real-world"
environment in which to colour time and monitor their movies for film or digital
cinema release with top industry colourists. Masters for theatrical prints, as
well as final files for all digital and electronic release, can be prepped with
full-frame, slow-motion and frame-to-frame comparisons using the iS10 projector
and a film projector. These new capabilities enable Post Logic Studios - already
a digital mastering destination favoured by directors Steven Spielberg, Sam
Mendes and Francis Ford Coppola and DPs ranging from Vittorio Storaro to Janusz
Kaminski - to offer filmmakers the same level of interaction and control over
the look of a theatrical release that has long been enjoyed for creating
television, after-market video and DVD versions.
"For the past decade, Post Logic Studios has demonstrated the vision and
commitment to continuously embrace the latest technology and offer their
customers the very highest standard of end-to-end services", said Peter
Nicholas, Digital Projection's Director of Cinema Sales and Marketing in the
Americas. "DPI is excited to be playing a key role in the facility's new digital
intermediate service offering."
DPI's work with Post Logic Studios further bolsters its reputation for providing
Hollywood studios, premier post-production companies and screening rooms with
high-performance digital projection solutions. DPI was first to introduce DLP™
technology to Hollywood in 1996 and has worked closely with industry
professionals ever since.
