DLP Cinema™ Projectors By Digital Projection International Chosen for Most Extensive Conversion to Digital Cinema
Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer of
high-performance projection systems, announced American Cinema Advertising
Network (ACAN) will supply UltraStar Cinemas of San Diego, CA with its Digital
Projection Cinema projectors featuring Texas Instruments DLP Cinema™ technology.
The projectors will be used to display digital pre-show advertising content,
alternative programming, digital theatrical trailers and Hollywood digital
features. UltraStar will be the first North American exhibitor to use DLP
Cinema™ technology-equipped projectors for all digital pre-show programming and
full features.
Under its recently announced Pre-Show Advertising and Media Asset Marketing
Agreement with UltraStar, ACAN will initially outfit 20 out of the company’s 81
total screens in the U.S. with DPI’s DLP Cinema™ projectors. The Agreement calls
for ACAN to finish the conversion of UltraStar’s remaining 61 screens within a
year, which will likely make the company the first exhibitor in the world to be
fully equipped for digital cinema on all screens.
“We are so gratified that a company and an exhibitor have finally stepped up to
put into place high-quality projection technology for the exhibition of all
digital content,” said Peter Nicholas, DPI’s Director of Cinema Sales and
Marketing in North America. “It’s an honor to be part of such a significant step
forward.”
“We are pleased to see Digital Projection and UltraStar moving forward with a
significant DLP Cinema deployment,” said Doug Darrow, Business Manager, Texas
Instruments DLP Products. “A complete conversion of UltraStar’s 81 screens to
digital is a promising step towards the future of cinema.”
In addition to DPI, ACAN has assembled a team of leading companies to execute
this extensive project. According to Alex Gorovitz, chief executive officer of
ACAN, and Alan Grossberg, president and CEO of UltraStar Cinemas, the companies
are committed to providing the best presentation quality for the viewing
audience and its advertising clientele.
"UltraStar Cinemas will be the first exhibitor in North America to be
equipped with the necessary equipment to show all digital programming, including
movies, using one projector. The quality of the theatrical presentation should
be the absolute best, including the pre-show. Anything less is a disservice to
the advertiser and an insult to the audience," said Gorovitz.
“We've been a leader in the adoption of digital cinema and are hopeful that
other exhibitors will follow our lead by making the jump to DLP Cinema™ for all
applications, rather than giving in to the temptation of using inferior non-DLP
technology,” added Grossberg. "ACAN obviously shares our vision and commitment
to superior digital presentation as evidenced by their willingness to provide
this technology."
