Stratacache today announced OmniCast for Digital Cinema, a new content distribution solution for reliably transmitting digital film files from a single source to hundreds or thousand of theaters simultaneously at high speed. Based on OmniCast Performance Edition (see "Stratacache Introduces Unprecedented Level of File Delivery Performance," also released today), OmniCast for Digital Cinema is the first product to accelerate the trend toward digital cinema in theaters by enabling very fast, highly-reliable distributions of digital cinema content using standard, low-cost Intel based servers.
As theater chains in India, China, the United States and other regions around the world take the lead in moving to digital cinema formats, they need a fast, reliable, and cost-effective means of transferring files from the media supplier to multiple movie houses. Built to run on any standard Windows or Linux server, OmniCast for Digital Cinema works over terrestrial, satellite, wireless, private WAN, or public network, and has been proven to multicast 300GB video files in excess of 100Mbps on low cost Intel servers. This 300GB File/100Mb/s+ performance level is nearly three times as fast as the nearest competing solution.
OmniCast for Digital Cinema includes all the features required for optimized performance in digital cinema environments. It encrypts content, guarantees and reports delivery, and integrates easily with other encryption and media management solutions. In addition, its powerful job scheduler allows media suppliers to preset "off peak" delivery times to take advantage of overnight or weekend hours when network transport costs are lower.
"Many of our customers had been using modified FTP for these large file transfers, and they came to us looking for a higher performing, more reliable solution that could accelerate media distribution while reducing operational costs and ongoing headaches," said Chris Riegel, CEO of Stratacache. "OmniCast Performance Edition is the fastest reliable multicast distribution software in the world, and our new OmniCast Digital Cinema version leverages that performance engine to enable high performance/low cost, reliable digital media transfers for the digital cinema industry."
OmniCast for Digital Cinema is available as of October 1, 2006. The product may be purchased directly from Stratacache or from leading digital video integrators and network service providers worldwide.
