XPAND, a rapidly growing international leader in 3D Digital experiences and technology platforms, today announced that Marcus Theatres®, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS) and seventh largest U.S. theatre circuit, plans to install 12 XPAND 3D systems across the Midwest, taking the XPAND 3D network to over 200 theatres worldwide.
XPAND has had enormous growth over the last several months since adopting their superior stereoscopic active technology, a highly sophisticated infrared 3D delivery system, which is the base product of many developing 3D platforms. One of the distinctive components is the Active Glasses, a fast-switching shutter mechanism that alternately blocks each eye. Coupled by a wide lens-viewing field, images on the screen achieve a true depth, flicker free realism producing absolute 3D. XPAND’S 3D system is also the most flexible, adaptive, and utilitarian technology so it can easily transition through several auditoriums, allowing the exhibitor to maximize their operations, at a fraction of the cost.
With a commitment by Hollywood and independent studios to produce high-end 3D content, and the concurrent digital cinema conversion, Marcus Theatres and XPAND will work together in providing the most optimal guest experience, which both companies believe will quickly become the latest trend in 3D movie-going entertainment. Further enhancing the experience, will be the roll-out later this year of XPAND’S redesigned glasses that will not only be a sleek new model, but also contains a host of other technology devices that will provide every exhibitor a long-life and cost-effective 3D product.
“XPAND is extremely privileged and honored to be working with Marcus Theatres which is one of the most well-respected exhibitor groups in the U.S.,” says Maria Costeira, CEO of XPAND. “This partnership confirms the position of Marcus Theatres as a cutting-edge and visionary group committed to the emergent 3D digital technologies market—so this is a perfectly matched partnership.”
“Marcus Theatres is pleased to offer our guests a unique 3D experience at these 12 locations utilizing XpanD’s active glasses. This innovative technology provides another way for us to attract more moviegoers to our theatres. We look forward to working together to create the ultimate movie experience,” said Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres.
