RealD 3D, the global leader in 3D and the #1 3D cinema experience, with more than 1,000 RealD 3D screens in North America, will join New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. Pictures for the exhibition and co-branding of Journey to the Center of the Earth, it was announced today by Michael Lewis, RealD, Chairman and CEO, and Warner Bros. President, Distribution, Dan Fellman.
“RealD is building a groundbreaking 3D platform which paves the way for the release of such films as our upcoming Journey to the Center of the Earth, which, in the 3D version, is the first live-action narrative 3D film ever released,” said Dan Fellman.
Journey to the Center of the Earth marks the first full-length live-action narrative film to be released by a major studio at digital 3D theatres; and it will be the widest 3D release in the history of the technology. The film will also be simultaneously featured in 2D theaters.
“We are looking forward to working with New Line/Warner Bros. on the first live-action 3D summer blockbuster,” said Mr. Lewis. “We are thrilled to have built a 3D platform which enables a movie of this scope to take over screens this summer.”
Journey to the Center of the Earth also marks the first theatrical release where a film will be available to the public in RealD XL, a larger-screen technology, which allows RealD's next-generation 3D experience to reach screens over 60 feet wide with a single projector.
RealD is the global leader in 3D, with 90% of the worldwide digital 3D market and 97% of the domestic market.
RealD 3D is the most advanced digital 3D experience available in cinemas. The RealD 3D cinema experience is based upon visualization technology used by NASA and Fortune 500 companies, and utilizes a circular polarization system to create a vivid and immersive three-dimensional picture.
