Veritek: A Year in Digital Cinema
In July last year (2012), Sony Digital Cinema announced
that it was to provide 4K projection systems to the Vue Cinema chain for its
network of UK screens.
Following a unique decision to select two suppliers to
work side by side in the UK; Veritek was confirmed to support 50 per cent of
Vue’s sites across the UK; signing a ten year service agreement with Sony
Europe.
Avril Bryden, Sony’s European repair network manager
said: “At Sony Digital Cinema we are committed to delivering high-end solutions
to our exhibitors from the projectors to the after sales service we provide and
we believe Veritek has the same high quality standard that we do. We have
worked with Veritek previously in other areas and its service excellence
alongside its European capability are key factors of success for us.”
In April 2013 Veritek further signed a deal
with Sony to provide installation and support for the complete digitalization
of CinemaxX Cinemas across Germany and Denmark.
In August 2013 Veritek
announced the successful completion of the digital rollout, with 33 CinemaxX
cinemas in Germany and Denmark converted to digital. The project has involved
the installation or integration of 165 Sony projectors; 154 being the SRX320
model, and a further 11 being the SRX515 models.
A
total of 120 projectors have been integrated, while approximately 250 35mm
projectors have been decommissioned. Veritek was not only responsible for the decommission
of the old equipment and the installation of the Sony projectors, but also the
installation of new audio and 3D systems from Dolby and Real D.
The
first installation of three SRX320’s took place in Germany at the end of April
2012, this was followed by a further five installations in June. Three sites in
Denmark, involving 19 installations of SRX320 were completed by November 2012.
The main German rollout took place over a six-month period that ended in July
Michael Kroll, European Support and Business
Development Manager of Veritek GmbH said: “Some installations were more
involved than others such as the installation of two SRX515s at CinemaxX ‘Kino
Holi’ in Hamburg, where the projectors were carried in over the roof of the
cinema using a crane.
“The
most demanding installation was in Berlin, where 14 new projectors (5 SRX320
and 9 SRX515) were installed that included the installation of a special
movable pedestal in one screen to enable easy position change for using the
35mm projector for ‘Berlinale’ – the famous movie festival.”
Overall
42 Veritek engineers have been involved in the roll-out project; 15 in the UK,
12 in Germany with support from a
further 15 engineers across Europe. On average, Veritek were installing up to
five projectors every week.
Christian
Gisy, a director of CinemaxX, commented on the digitalisation roll-out saying:
“It has been done in a significantly fast time and the whole thing went
smoothly. Our thanks to Sony and Veritek for their energetic and competent support.
The new digital age chapter is now almost complete.”
This has been part of Veritek’s 10-year service
agreement with Sony Europe Ltd to deliver unparalleled service support to
exhibitors. This agreement demonstrates both companies' commitment to bring
quality solutions to cinemas.
Since July 18, 2012, Veritek
has been providing 364 days per year coverage between the hours of 9.00am and
midnight, guaranteeing a same day response for priority calls logged before 4pm.
This major upgrade and investment from
CinemaxX and its new owners, Vue, will provide the very latest cinema
technology to their valued customers.
