JBL Professional and Crown Audio Components Deliver Power and Precision to South Korea’s Newest Theater Multiplex and Entertainment Destination
Demonstrating its ability to provide state of the art, performance matched audio components for the world’s elite theater installations, the Harman Pro Cinema Group announced that it had provided Kinoton Korea Inc., with JBL Professional ScreenArray® loudspeakers and Crown Audio DSi amplifiers for Primus Sangdong, South Korea’s newest and most extensive theater multiplex and entertainment complex located outside of Seoul in the city of Bucheon, Gyeonggi.
The new multiplex reflects the worldwide trend of multiplex theaters becoming anchor components of more extensive entertainment destinations that also include retail and hospitality outlets and sometimes live performance facilities. With multiple screens, extensive restaurant offerings, leisure areas, video arcades, retail shopping mall and access to green areas as well as premium grade office space, the new complex is intended not only as a destination for entertainment but as an urban renewal project. To support a project of this magnitude and ambition, the theater’s sound had to be state-of-the-art.
Harman Pro Korean Distributor, Sovico Corporation, served as system designer and supplier of the installed systems.“The Harman Pro Group was the supplier of choice on this project,” said DJ Kwon, head of overseas purchasing team at SOVICO, “because as the newest and most advanced entertainment space in Korea’s largest city, the cinema’s sound had to provide the power and clarity that comes from JBL ScreenArray and Crown DSi amplifiers.”
JBL Professional ScreenArray® loudspeakers feature the latest technical innovations integrated into a system design providing superior coverage and maximum power output with minimum distortion. Complimenting the ScreenArray systems are the new Crown DSi Digital Screen Series amplifiers. The DSi Series provide a full range of Crown power and incorporate all necessary loudspeaker processing with automatic presets for the JBL cinema speaker systems. The ScreenArray and DSi amplifiers are an integrated system delivering perfect coverage and wide dynamic range with the ability to handle the extreme performance limits so often necessary in today’s movie-going experience.
The multiplex selected JBL 8330A and 8340A surround speakers to support the JBL 4632 and 3632 screen channel loudspeakers. All auditoriums also feature a compliment of powerful JBL 4641 and 4645C subwoofers. Power is provided by Crown DSi 1000 and 2000 amplifiers, accompanied by the DSi 8M for complete system monitoring. The Crown DSi Series feature onboard digital signal processing, including crossovers, EQ filters, delay and output limiting.
Commenting on the application, Stephen Morris, Vice President of Cinema Sales and Marketing, Harman Pro Group noted, “the combination of JBL ScreenArray systems and Crown DSi amplifiers is the perfect integrated system capable of accurately reproducing the film soundtrack exactly as intended by the sound designer and the film director. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Korean market, home of the prestigious and influential Pusan International Film Festival! At the Harman Pro Group, we’re very pleased that our components have been selected to represent the sound of Primus Sangdong multiplex.”
