RealD, the global leader in 3D, today announced that its next-generation digital 3D cinema experience will reach 658 theaters domestically for the Disney release of Hannah Montana 3D.
The 3D concert film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert was shot during the star’s 69-city winter tour. The majority of moviegoers who see the film will see it in RealD 3D, the largest global 3D cinema platform.
Hannah Montana is a live-action 3D film, which represents a significant and exciting development in 3D cinema production. The new generation of quality 3D film releases had previously been primarily animated productions.
“Disney has been a pioneer of the digital 3D format from the beginning with such releases as Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons,” said Joseph Peixoto, President, Worldwide Cinema, RealD. “The advances shown in a film like Hannah Montana 3D represent the rapid increase of movies being created for our platform. This year’s movie slate proves that audiences want best-of-breed new experiences; they have chosen 3D time and again and we look forward to a great 2008 with Hannah and beyond.”
RealD estimates 4,000 RealD 3D screens globally by 2009.
