GDC Technology Limited (‘GDC’), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions announced that a new Cinity LED solution incorporating media server technology from GDC, has successfully passed the latest and most rigorous test for High Dynamic Range (“HDR”) and 3D presentation under Compliance Test Plan (CTP) version 1.4.1 from Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).
The Cinity LED cinema screen with GDC HDR LED media server have become the world's first and only HDR display and media server to receive this certification, setting a new benchmark in the global film industry.
As the authoritative testing and certification body for the global digital cinema industry, DCI is responsible for formulating and updating the CTP for digital cinema systems. In April 2024, to address trends in display technology innovation and upgrades in market demand, DCI released the highest certification standard, CTP v1.4.1, for global digital cinema equipment. The certification categories include traditional projection technology and direct-view LED screen technology, which are further divided into Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR). The optional Stereoscopic Presentation testing allows certification of 3D capable equipment. HDR direct-view LED screen technology with 3D support represents the higher standard category.
“The GDC HDR LED media server represents the first-ever media server technology to achieve this status," said Dr. Man Nang Chong, founder and CEO of GDC. "This milestone marks the dawn of HDR cinema as defined by Hollywood DCI standards"
“Meeting the various technical standards and requirements outlined in the DCI compliance test plan for direct view high dynamic range is no small feat. It requires a significant investment in research and development, along with skilled expertise and time,” said Pranay Kumar, CTO of GDC Technology Limited. “We take pride in the fact that the GDC HDR LED media servers continue our tradition of being first-to-market, enabling movie theatres the ability to deliver an exceptional image quality that audiences will truly notice.”
The Cinema’s Highest Specification Media ServerGDC patented HDR LED media server featuring Flexible Architecture Stable Technology (FAST) is designed for playing back 4K high frame rate movies up to 120 frames per second and 4K 3D content.
The media server incorporates all the essential features and benefits of the SR Series media servers, including highly reliable components. It ensures near-zero maintenance and an impressive 100,000 hours of Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
The SR Series features diskless up to 4TB CineCache (built-in cache memory) playback, allowing content to be played back without the need for local HDD storage. It supports the playback of thousands of movies and includes a newly designed web-based interface that is user-friendly and intuitive.
