GDC Continues its Market Dominance in China
In the ever-evolving and fast-changing landscape of digital cinema, GDC is one company that has withstood the test of time and emerged as one of the global industry leaders. Since founded a decade ago, GDC has gone from strength to strength. Today, it ranks among world’s top three digital cinema server providers and is the undisputed leader in China with over 80% market share. Incidentally, it also claims the top spot in Asia with more than two-thirds of the Asian market.
GDC helped usher in the new digital era in China when it successfully installed the very first digital cinema theatre in the country in April 2002. The digital release of the feature film "The Missing Gun" on the day of opening in Shanghai marks the beginning of this new chapter in China’s movie industry. The pace of digital conversion in China has been relentless ever since; to date, GDC has successfully completed close to 1500 installations in China, with prominent customers (ranked among top circuits according to Published Box Office collection 2008) such as China Film stellar Circuit, Wanda Circuit, China Film Nanfang Xin Gan Xian Circuit, Guangzhou Jinyi Zhujiang Circuit, Sichuan Pacific Circuit, Dadi Circuit, Lumière Cinemas, Golden Harvest China, Broadway China, UME Circuit, Hengdian Cinemas and UA China.
"GDC feels honored and privileged to have been given the opportunity to help launch China’s digital movie industry," said Dr. Man-Nang CHONG, founder and CEO of GDC Technology. "We are pleased to see our early effort has finally paid off and reaching the 1500 unit mark in China would serve as a testimony to our strong brand name and broad market acceptance in the country. With a strong customer base already established, GDC is optimistic to accelerate its market penetration in China in tandem with the rising trend of digital conversion worldwide.
