Dolby Demonstrates Next-Generation Digital Cinema Solutions at ShowEast 2011

This technology demonstration will be held at Barco’s Belgian Beer Bar on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marriott Hollywood Beach Hotel, by invitation only.


Dolby Digital Cinema
Dolby will showcase its latest line of digital cinema offerings at ShowEast in booth 803. Since launching its digital cinema technologies, Dolby has shipped approximately 11,000 Dolby Screen Servers, 12,500 Dolby CP750 Digital Cinema Processors, and 8,600 Dolby 3D Digital Cinema systems.

Dolby Screen Servers
Dolby will feature a prototype of its newest server, the DSS220, which has been optimized to work exclusively with a Dolby 2K/4K IMB. Capable of playing back 24, 48, or 60 fps, the DSS220 is also capable of 48 and 60 fps per eye for 3D. The DSS220 significantly reduces the cost and size of the server chassis while providing the same reliable performance as the market-proven DSS200.
The DSS200, the nucleus of the Dolby Digital Cinema System, is designed by Dolby as an all-in-one platform to store, decode, and deliver pristine movies to a digital cinema projector. Previously deployed DSS200 servers are expected to be upgradable to support a Dolby 2K/4K IMB with high-frame-rate 2D and 3D capabilities for 24, 48, and 60 fps.

Dolby Digital Cinema Processor
Designed to work with the new Dolby Surround 7.1 format, the Dolby CP750 seamlessly integrates with preshow servers, alternative content, and digital cinema servers. The processor has an easy-to-use interface and powerful setup and remote software, and it can play back up to eight-channel PCM digital audio. In addition, the CP750 can process narratives for the hearing or visually impaired.

Dolby 3D
Dolby 3D provides exhibitors with an efficient and flexible solution designed to deliver a superior 3D experience. Dolby’s 3D solution uses a unique full-spectrum color-filter technology that provides realistic color reproduction and extremely sharp images. Dolby 3D glasses come in both adult and child sizes, and because they are reusable, the per-ticket cost can be well below the cost of disposable 3D glasses.

Dolby Surround 7.1
To date, more than 40 feature films have been or will be mixed in 7.1 channels since the launch of Dolby Surround 7.1. With Dolby Surround 7.1 reaching approximately 2,100 global installations, major Hollywood and international studio are embracing the latest audio format.

The ShowEast screening of Paramount Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ film The Adventures of Tintin will be presented exclusively in Dolby Surround 7.1 at the AMC Theatre.
