Microspace Retains Thom Velde to Strengthen Leadership in Digital Cinema
AMC Theaters Veteran to Leverage Deep Pool of Industry Relationships to Help
Drive Further Growth in Emerging Segment
Microspace Communications Corporation (Microspace),
the leading provider of point-to-multipoint satellite services, today announced
that it has retained Thom Velde, a former executive of AMC Theaters, to help
drive further success for its VELOCITY service in penetrating the digital cinema
marketplace.
Velde will help deepen Microspace's established foothold in the emerging segment
through his strategic relationships and experience acquired over more than two
decades in the industry. He previously served in several managerial capacities
with AMC Theatres, most recently as senior vice president, film, in Los Angeles.
"The movie industry is beginning to embrace digital technology to help improve
the quality and lifespan of films for the benefit of theater owners and
production companies alike," said Velde. "Digital cinema is an exciting new
market that is rapidly gaining market acceptance and I look forward to helping
Microspace further extend its well-established footprint within the industry."
Microspace has played a leading role in global digital cinema initiatives for
the past several years by enabling satellite delivery of such films as Shark
Tale, Shrek II and Collateral, among others. The company was the first to
deliver 4K Standardized Evaluation Materials via satellite and, as a long- time

committee to address technologies, Microspace actively contributes to standards
development and recommendations for digital cinema. Additionally, Microspace
sponsored the Digital Cinema Laboratory's research and testing initiatives by
donating a complete VELOCITY satellite network package.
"We are truly excited to be able to leverage Thom's substantial connections and
industry influence to help drive further growth and success for our digital
cinema initiatives," said Joe Amor, vice president and general manager of
Microspace. "His seasoned understanding of the cinema industry and relationships
with key decision-makers will further strengthen our existing market position as
the premiere content provider for digital cinema."
