On Saturday October 21 began the Season of The Met: Live in HD 2023 - 2024, which will run until May 11, 2024 with live broadcasts via satellite to 70 countries around the world, including Germany, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and in Colombia live - exclusively - in theaters of Cine Colombia.
This initiative of digital satellite transmissions began in Colombia in February 2009, when it was transmitted for the first time to selected theaters in Bogota. Gradually, it was extended to 2 other cities, Cali and Medellin. The Met: Live in HD in the country has accumulated more than 285,000 viewers, which translates into an average of 25,000 opera lovers each year, eager to continue enjoying the Metropolitan Opera's offerings on the screens.
Today, after 14 seasons nationwide, the opera will be broadcast in Cine Colombia movie theaters via internet stream and Cloud technologies for the first time in LATAM, thanks to Labodigital's Live Cinema service, a great digital transformation implemented in the service of movie theaters, being the first exhibitor in the region with such technology.
The Metropolitan Opera of New York, broadcasts the satellite signal, which is downlinked on multiple physical locations strategically located both geographically and meteorologically, ensuring continuity and integrity in the transmission of the signal. It also generates two streams in simultaneous sequence that work as a backup of each other. Subsequently, they are transmitted through Cloud services ensuring stability in transmission, maintaining the highest standards of image quality, color depth and sound, complying with computer security protocols.
Labodigital has implemented Live Cinema in a strategic alliance for all Latam, including Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Chile, with the company Gofilex based in Europe. To date, Cine Colombia has equipment installed in the projection rooms of the theaters that broadcast The Met: Live in HD, where they receive the live transmission and through the connection to the projection equipment, viewers can enjoy the opera in theaters and live the best experience in the quality of its transmission, as if it were the projection of a movie.
In addition to the installed equipment, Labodigital's Live Cinema has a monitoring system for the signal during the satellite download, for the signal being projected in the theaters and for the status of each of the equipment installed in the theaters. The service also has local IT support in Colombia and support at the signal reception points in Europe through Gofilex.
Undoubtedly this season of The Met: Live in HD 2023 - 2024 is historic both in its programming, with cinematographic resources and 13 cameras on stage, and in the use of new technologies such as Live Cinema for its transmissions.
